The Importance of Screening Laterals

It happens so often. The need to fill positions because they are vacant.

Add to that politicians claiming money is being spent on non intended purposes and you place leadership in a position to rush to making decisions.

But does this mean you have to rush to hire laterals that may not have been able to make the cut in other agencies?

No.

In recent news, a #Hemet police officer was recently charged with charges that left a woman with brain injuries: https://www.pressenterprise.com/2023/08/18/hemet-police-officer-charged-after-woman-suffers-brain-injury/

During my time as #CityManager there, I introduced the department and their leadership to policing principles that are absolutely demanded nowadays.

We applied for a grant through the state, and #Hemet was awarded over $900,000 to build a police department tasked with modernizing its policing strategies.

While it was not met with absolute acceptance, the city and its leadership will now rely on this to help move it through its current environment.

As always, being able to see the potential for policing obstacles is critical to being a city manager tasked with leading police chiefs.
